Lia Thomas is not female; the sports scholarship was intended for females. Male and female sports classifications were made deliberately distinct from one another, as males and females develop very different levels of strength and endurance. As such, female sports scholarships absolutely need to go to females, or we end up having only male sport - and no avenue for women who also want to get recognised for throwing balls around and swimming quickly. If you're male, and can't win as a male - tough, you're stuck with it.
